NepWalk — Product vision

Status: founder's vision, written down 21 Sep 2026 in his own terms. This is where NepWalk is going, not what the MVP builds. The MVP is cut from this (see mvp/v2/scope.md); anything below that isn't in the MVP is future work. Read this first before any product, design or AI decision.

In one sentence

NepWalk is the traveller's app for Nepal: you pick or shape an itinerary, and everything that makes it happen — hotels, vehicles, flights, guides — is chosen, priced and confirmed for you, easy as a cake.

The hero

The traveller's day plan, with the taste of Nepal's culture. That is what people see, share and remember. The look and feel follows Visitacity: day tabs, one card per stop with photo, time and duration, the way from one stop to the next between cards.

Management — bookings, vendors, confirmations, money — happens behind it, done by NepWalk and (later) agencies. It is never the thing the traveller has to deal with.

Who uses NepWalk

Who What they do
Traveller — solo, family or part of a group; no restriction Plans a whole trip for themselves, or follows one; sees where to be, when, and how they get there
Travel leader Brings a group: chooses or builds the itinerary, gives the group's basics, sees the price, invites the group and shares the plan
Vendors — hotels, vehicle owners, guides, porters and more Register in a back office (a NepWalk-Vendor app, or the same app with a separate login); NepWalk admin approves them. Their hotels, vehicles and services get selected for travellers
NepWalk admin Approves and verifies vendors, keeps reviews, oversees confirmations

NepWalk is the heart. The vendor side connects into it; it is not a separate business.

The core idea: the itinerary is the baseline

Everything hangs off one itinerary. It tells NepWalk where travellers are going and how they are moving, hour by hour. Services attach to the itinerary where they are needed.

Example of what an itinerary looks like:

11:00 Arrive in Kathmandu
11:00–11:30 Drive to the hotel ← vehicle
11:45–12:45 Hotel check-in and freshen up ← hotel
…

The flow (future)

  1. A leader wants to bring a group. They open NepWalk and either browse ready-made itineraries or just type what they want — e.g. "3 days in Kathmandu, 5 days in Pokhara".
  2. NepWalk suggests popular, proven itineraries for that shape. These are not made up on the spot: they come from defined templates, popular itineraries and ones travellers have liked. AI helps generate and adjust, but always within those templates — never random. The leader can also build their own.
  3. The leader gives the basics at the start (group size, dates, and whatever the itinerary needs to be sized correctly).
  4. Everything is auto-selected. Hotels, flights, vehicles and other services are picked automatically. The leader can change anything, and can drop a service they don't want (e.g. "we have our own vehicle") — it's customisable, but by default everything is sorted in a few clicks.
  5. The price is shown, because every service is selected (or changed) up front.
  6. The leader invites the group and shares the itinerary.
  7. Everything gets confirmed, and the leader is kept informed as bookings confirm.
  8. During the trip — if travellers allow location sharing — NepWalk knows where they are. Example: they're still in Bhaktapur and haven't gone back, so NepWalk can suggest a hotel there.

Agencies deliver, NepWalk connects (B12, 22 Sep 2026)

  • Travellers use NepWalk freely. When a trip includes a paid service — hotel, vehicle, domestic flight, guide — NepWalk assigns a licensed travel agency to it.
  • The agency delivers the trip and is responsible for the traveller on the ground. Agencies can also bring their own travellers to NepWalk.
  • NepWalk runs the platform: the 3-click trip, the plan, vendor standards, payments, reviews and the agency–traveller contact (P30).
  • NepWalk takes money from agencies only; vendor commissions go to the agencies (B13).
  • Travellers rate agencies; below 2 stars an agency is suspended.
  • NepWalk is an agency aggregator, not a replacement — agencies lift NepWalk up instead of fighting it.

How vendors get chosen

  • NepWalk admins approve every vendor with proof, whichever agency uses it (P29). Vendors may later register themselves, but approval stays with NepWalk.
  • Their reviews and verification stay on NepWalk and are shown to travellers.
  • Selection is calculated: good work first, then availability/occupancy and similar signals.

Scope: inside Nepal

NepWalk handles domestic logistics: hotels, vehicles, domestic flights, guides, porters, meals and experiences. International flights and visas stay with the traveller; the trip starts at arrival in Nepal. International, if ever, only much later and on demand.

A trip in 2–3 clicks

The heart of the experience for whoever plans the trip (NepWalk team, agent or leader):

  1. Type it the way you'd say it — "5 days in Kathmandu and Pokhara".
  2. Pick one of the popular Pailas shown (ranked by popularity and the group's preferences) — or start from scratch, or (later) let AI draft one.
  3. Tune it: how many days, how many people, what the group enjoys, and which services to include or skip (e.g. no flights, no vehicle — just hotels and restaurants).

The trip is ready: hotels, vehicle and domestic flights set and sized automatically. Arrival and departure times and other details can be filled in later. Everything stays editable — stops can be added, changed or removed.

Maps

Travellers can see where they're going: a map for each day's stops and a map of the whole trip, one tap from the itinerary.

Naming

"Package" is the wrong word — NepWalk isn't selling fixed packages. The itinerary is the product. A NepWalk name for it is still to be chosen.

Principles

  • For everyone. One person planning a week alone gets the same three clicks as a group of fifty.
  • Service over price talk. The promise is clear plans and proper service; vendors are chosen for how well they serve, never for the commission they pay (B9).
  • Giving grows with the company: 5–8% of profit once NepWalk is profitable — about 5% from around year 3, rising (B10).

  • Easy like a cake. Few clicks; sensible defaults; change only what you want.

  • Defined, not random. AI works from templates and real popular itineraries.
  • Verified vendors only, with reviews kept on NepWalk.
  • The traveller sees the journey; the back office does the work.
  • Places are real data — each with location (lat/long), the base it belongs to (Thamel → Kathmandu → Kathmandu Valley) and aliases (KTM = Kathmandu), so distances, maps and AI matching work later.
