Competitor landscape

The line (revised 22 Sep): others help you book a trip — even a custom one with a vetted local operator. NepWalk runs the trip with you: a live day plan, checks on the actual hotel, vehicle, driver and guide, changes that reach everyone, and far less work for the group leader. These are advantages to prove on real trips, not gaps to assume in competitors.

Type Examples What they do What they don't do
Global booking sites Booking.com, Agoda, Expedia, Airbnb Hotel nights and flights, worldwide Vehicles, guides, Kathmandu–Pokhara logistics; they don't check drivers
Indian online travel agency MakeMyTrip Flights, hotels and holiday packages, mainly for Indian travellers; Nepal packages delivered through local partners A trip plan for a US family or group; checking vendors on the ground
Nepal booking sites TripTurbo (since 2020, built on Natraj Tours & Travels, est. 1967), Sastotickets, Liberty Holidays, Nepflights, Buskoticket Individual bookings in one app — flights, buses, hotels, 200+ activities; local and foreign card payments A whole trip with a day-by-day plan; one accountable agency
Tours and activities Viator, GetYourGuide, Klook, Backstreet Academy Single activities — a city tour, a cooking class Hotels, transport, how the days fit together
Tour marketplaces and group operators TourRadar, Bookmundi, Intrepid, G Adventures Both fixed-date and private, tailor-made trips. Bookmundi pairs travellers with a local trip designer and vets its Nepal operators; TourRadar lists many Nepal operators with thousands of reviews To prove, not assume: a usable daily plan during the trip; checks on the actual vehicle, driver and hotel; coordinated changes
Trip planners Visitacity, Wanderlog, TripIt Beautiful plans Booking anything; anyone on the ground in Nepal
The real competitor Thamel agencies + WhatsApp Everything, offline, through personal relationships Anything visible or checkable

Where NepWalk sits

Not "custom trips with verified agencies" — Bookmundi and TourRadar already offer that (corrected 22 Sep). NepWalk's difference to prove is the layer after booking:

  1. A usable daily plan — where to be, when, how you get there, tonight's hotel (M1).
  2. Checks on the specific hotel, vehicle, driver and guide, not only the agency (P29).
  3. Coordinated changes — when timing or transport changes, the agency and every traveller see the updated plan (the shared link is live; alerts come after the MVP).
  4. Less work for the group leader — fewer separate messages and repeated questions.

Study: TourRadar for its agency (operator) tools · TripTurbo for local booking convenience and payments · Bookmundi for how it connects travellers with Nepal operators.

Why the big players won't simply copy it

Nepal is small for them, and the hard part is the ground: checking vehicles and guides, rebooking a Pokhara flight when fog cancels it at 7 am. They are more likely to partner with a local layer than build one.

NepWalk's honest weakness

They have reach and trust; NepWalk has neither yet. So NepWalk starts narrow — US church and mission groups (B5, O3) — and wins on the experience on the ground.

Market context

The USA is Nepal's second-largest source market (112,316 visitors in 2025) — see ../mvp/nepal-arrivals-2019_finding.md.
