Thamel agencies + WhatsApp — how most trips are run today

| Serves | Travellers who book through an agent — often found online, or by referral |
| In Nepal? | Everything, arranged by phone and WhatsApp |

1. What they sell
- Packages: hotels, vehicles, guides, domestic flights, treks — assembled per client.
2. How they make money
- Margin on the package and commission from vendors, usually not visible to the traveller.
3. "UI/UX"
- WhatsApp messages, PDFs and phone calls; the plan lives in many chats and changes by message.
4. Strengths
- Personal relationships, local knowledge, flexibility, they can fix things on the spot.
5. Weaknesses
- Nobody can tell a good agency from a bad one before arriving.
- Work handed to whoever is cheapest — e.g. the unregistered van that broke down on the Pokhara road.
- Good guides and vendors without city contacts get no work.
- One plan, many versions; travellers miss changes.
6. For NepWalk
| Copy | Do differently | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| The personal touch and local knowledge; being reachable on WhatsApp (A6) | One live plan; checked vendors; a record of real work | Treating agencies as enemies — from 2027 they're customers (B4) |
